Canal+ International is the subsidiary for the Canal+ Group -owned by Vivendi Group- responsible for international and French overseas territories. Collaboration with Red Bee started in 1999 with the playout of 2 channels gradually evolving to end-to-end managed service for 20 channels including production, post production, preparation of non-linear distribution (+ 2 on-demand channels) and transition to an entirely new, future proof HD Red Bee broadcast facility.

The Challenge

Grow internationally

  • Achieve Vivendi’s vision of becoming a major media company by growing Canal+ (one of its subsidiaries) into a larger international TV company with an easily expandable facility
  • Build a new site for Canal+Overseas, to serve as a third site for Canal+ group, connected to their core media asset management and content scheduling system
  • Focus on producing and acquiring content and develop Canal+ à la demande (on demand)
  • Expand and grow in Africa

The Solution

Fully managed service

  • Move channels from Boulogne to a new future-proof Ericsson HD platform at Ericsson’s Mediadome
  • Manage the MCR and Playout for 20 linear channels, both live and thematic, including three barker channels
  • Boost content production by creating:
    • A brand new 100m2 studio
    • A production gallery
    • 11 post-production suites
    • Two audio suites
    • Four speaker booths
  • Provide a Media Management service, ingesting, validating, archiving and transcoding content for non-linear distribution

The Results

Service excellence and growth

  • A brand new third site for Canal+ is inaugurated, allowing the channel to grow with ease, in response to customer needs
  • Operational efficiencies driven by a 24/7 fully managed service
  • More time is free to focus on driving the non-linear distribution of Canal+ à la demande (on demand)
  • Two African channels are launched in 2014
  • Security is improved, thanks to a generator that can provide a full week’s worth of power
