Ericsson will showcase its new media asset management platform at IBC 2016. The platform aims to help broadcasters by taking care of the end-to-end preparation of assets for VOD services including the transcoding, packaging and delivery of content for major non-linear platforms such as YouTube, cloud storage like Amazon S3, as well as iOS and Android smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and games consoles.
Designed as a smart resource engine, the service platform relies on Ericsson’s Cloud Media Processing Platform to dynamically process media assets in a timely manner, ensuring that content is quickly and efficiently delivered from either the public or private cloud. Capabilities include gathering media and metadata for online packaging and delivery, such as still images, subtitles, audio tracks, previews and master files. Additional offerings include the stitching, transcoding, DRM, packaging and delivery of assets to OTT or IPTV services. The platform also provides archive capabilities to store content efficiently on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in a secure and encrypted manner.
Steve Plunkett, Chief Technology Officer, Ericsson, said: “The cloud-native approach of this service enables broadcasters to deliver content in a resilient, and secure environment. Our aim with this service is to help broadcasters provide improved flexibility and agility, enabling them to meet the demands of media asset management in an increasingly always-on and multi-screen world. ”
Consumers increasingly embrace the convenience of video on demand (VOD) services. However the value of this content can drop significantly just hours after it is aired, as consumers now have instant access to information or illegal copies of content online. As a result, broadcasters must ensure that assets are created and delivered to multiple platforms and catch-up services faster than ever.
